Joalane Lemao shared her experience receiving the Penglai Scholarship for a national from a lower-income developing country and studying at the WTI in the following testimony.

How did you hear about the scholarship?

I heard about the scholarship from the WTI’s website, listed as a recommendationfor students who would need financial assistance.

How did it help you?

The scholarship covered most of my expenses through the entire TRAIL+ program. This did not only give me financial freedom but it contributed immensely to my mental well-being as my rent was paid on time and my stipend was never delayed.

What did you find most beneficial from the scholarship ?

I had an opportunity to pursue my dream of studying LL.M. in one of the reputable institutions in terms of international trade law. WTI’s programs are a rarity, as they do not only focus on law but also economics, which is a very unique combination. If for not GIA, I would not have had a chance to access this kind of program.

Testimony from Penglai Scholarship for a Taiwan national Recipient, 2023

We asked Chieh-Ling to tell us about her experience receiving one of the Global Impact Association's scholarhsips and studying in Bern at the WTI. Here is what she shared with us:

How did you hear about the scholarship?

The opportunity to apply for Penglai Scholarship was brought to my attention by my professor in Taiwan, whose guidance and support played a significant role in my decision to pursue it.

How did it help you?

The scholarship covers the registration and tuition fees for the MILE, as well as living expenses in Bern and travel expenses to and from Bern and Taiwan.

What did you find most beneficial from the scholarship ?

The scholarship was a crucial factor enabling me to join the WTI. Beyond the financial support that allowed me to study at WTI, the scholarship required us to assist professors with the research. This opportunity to engage in academic research was immensely beneficial. It deepened my understanding of the subjects we were studying.

We asked Saheli, our 2023 Patricia Murillo Montesdeoca Scholarship recipient, what is was like for her to receive one of the Global Impact Associations Scholarships and about her experience studying in Bern at the World Trade Institute.

How did you hear about the scholarship?

I heard about the scholarship through the GIA and WTI websites.

What did you find most beneficial from the scholarship ?

In this testimonial we asked our 2022 Patricia Murillo Montesdeoca scholarship recipients, Karla, to share her experience receiving one of the Global Impact Association's scholarships. We are pleased to share her testimony about studying in Bern at the World Trade Institut.

How did you hear about the scholarship?

I was working for the Mexican Ministry of Economy when a university professor shared information about the Patricia Murillo Montesdeoca Scholarship through social media. I was surprised by the possibility of studying abroad at a prestigious institution like WTI, so I decided to apply and try my best to get the scholarship.

How did it help you?

Since the scholarship for the TRAIL + program included the flight from my country of origin to Switzerland and a stipend for the usual expenses such as student accommodation, groceries, transportation, mobile phone bill, and, if there was an opportunity, to go on excursions to other cities near Bern. This financial contribution allowed me to concentrate all my efforts and abilities on the master.

At the end of every academic year, we ask our scholarship recipients to reflect on their experience studying at the WTI. Following, is Claudia's testimonial.

How did you find out about the scholarship ?

I found out about the Nathalie Diaz Asmat Scholarship through the Global Impact Association website. This scholarship was created to honor the legacy of Nathalie, a MILE 14 Alumna who sadly passed away in 2020. She was a lawyer from Peru who came to Switzerland to study at WTI thanks to a scholarship. Then, she worked at the WTO and was a valuable member of the international trade community.

How did it help you?

The scholarship covers the registration and tuition fees for the MILE programme and my living expenses in Bern. Also, it helped me with the travel expenses from Lima to Bern.
